Renaud Lavillenie était présent au Stade de France ce lundi 5 août pour la finale du concours de la perche aux JO de Paris 2024. Il a assisté au nouveau record du monde de son protégé, non sans émotion.

The Stade de France was just waiting for this moment. The one where the Swede Armand Duplantis would once again beat his own world record. After two failures, the pole vaulter called on the crowd one last time to encourage him, for a final attempt.

In a stadium in turmoil, Duplantis took flight and passed the 6.25 meters. His ninth world record since 2020 and his jump to 6.17 meters in Torun, where he had erased the record of his idol and mentor, Renaud Lavillenie.

“Pride”

And it was under the eyes of the Frenchman that the Swede once again lit up the Stadium of France.

Once the bar was cleared, the 2012 Olympic champion let his joy explode. “It's pride and happiness to have witnessed something crazy”, Lavillenie explained to our colleagues at France TV, “knowing where it comes from is extraordinary”.

The two athletes are close and “Mondo” does not fail to come and greet the former world record holder, at his home in Clermont-Ferrand. He notably broke the world record by jumping 6.22 meters in February 2023 during the All-Star Pole Vault

The Swede obviously did not forget to come and greet his friend after obtaining his second Olympic title.
