China, last day of talks for US national security adviser

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan met with a senior Chinese military official on Thursday, the last day of a visit to Beijing aimed at easing tensions between the United States and China ahead of the Nov. 5 U.S. election. Sullivan is expected to call for improved communications between the U.S. and Chinese militaries during his meeting with Gen. Zhang Youxia, a member of the Central Military Commission, White House officials said. This is the first meeting between Zhang Youxia and a Biden administration official. The two officials are expected to discuss the Middle East, Ukraine, Taiwan and the South China Sea, among other issues.

Telegram founder Pavel Durov indicted and banned from leaving France

Pavel Durov, the founder of the online messaging service Telegram, has been indicted and placed under judicial supervision on several charges, including “laundering of crimes or offenses by an organized gang,” the Paris public prosecutor announced Wednesday evening. This arrest, which is “in no way a political decision” according to comments by French President Emmanuel Macron on the social network X, further fuels tensions between Paris and Moscow, which are high due to the war in Ukraine in particular.

Kremlin vows to continue fighting in Ukraine

South Korea considers arms delivery to kyiv

South Korea is considering arms delivery to kyiv, in response to repeated calls from Volodymyr Zelensky. South Korea's national security adviser said he would review Seoul's position on arms supplies. “We plan to reconsider the issue of arms supply to Ukraine”, said Chang Ho-jin, national security adviser to South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol. Until now, arms sales to countries in conflict were prohibited. For his part, Vladimir Putin warned South Korea that arms supplies to Ukraine would be a big mistake. Seoul could significantly strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities.
