Belgian Tim Merlier became European road champion by beating Dutchman Olav Kooij and Estonian Madis Mihkels in a mass sprint on Sunday, September 15 in Hasselt, in Belgian Limburg.

The rider, winner for the 14th time this season, succeeds Frenchman Christophe Laporte, only ninth on Sunday.
