Already out in the first round in Montpellier, Biterrois Richard Gasquet was eliminated on Monday as soon as he entered the ATP 250 tournament in Marseille in a duel of veterans by the Spaniard Roberto Bautista, 6-3, 7-5. The Nîmes Benjamin Bonzi also gave in to the Kazakhstani Shevchenko (7-6, 6-4)
Little helped by a weak serve (45% of first serves only), Gasquet, 37 years old and 131st in the world, missed his chance to break his opponent several times in the second set, after a first set carried away without difficulty by the Spaniard.
Bautista, 35 years old and 102nd in the ATP rankings, was able to rely on a more efficient commitment (9 aces, 69%) to win in 1 hour 51 min. He will face Russian Karen Khachanov (18th) in the next round.
The Nîmes Benjamin Bonzi (27 years old, 126th in the world), finalist of the tournament last year, fell from the start against Alexander Shevchenko, in 1h26 (7-6, 6-4).
