L'entraîneur du Montpellier Handball et ses joueurs étaient forcément déçus du résultat après la défaite contre Veszprém, jeudi 29 février lors de la 13e journée de Ligue des champions de handball.

Montpellier

Patrice Canayer, coach of Montpellier Handball: "Congratulations to Veszprém for this victory, logical on the appearance of the match. It’s a bit of a difficult phase for us because stringing together three defeats in a row is not something the house is used to. There were some interesting things, progress on the construction of the game but we made too many mistakes. We have too low a shooting percentage, not enough saves, too many individual shortcomings which prevented us from playing our chances until the end against a superior Veszprém team, particularly in terms of scoring. ;efficiency.

What I said to my players at the first timeout ? I told them what was on my mind, if I removed the microphone of the television, it's not to tell you now.  I love these players and this group, it’s just love. But I would love for them to show what they can do. When I hear from Veszprém that it's hard to play here… But make the match tough by not letting Remili shoot you in the head.

I'm a little harsh with them because I like them a lot. But we must still recognize that it is difficult. Monte is 20 years old, Prat is 19 years old… The Champions League is a competition for grown-ups so you have to be tolerant with them, even if sometimes it's difficult."

Yanis Lenne, right winger of Montpellier Handball : "We knew that this match was important for us in our race for fourth place. We started the match on the wrong foot, especially on the withdrawals, where we let Veszprém play fast.

Then we found our counter-attacking game so it was better. But we suffered defensively in the second half. We still score 31 goals so it's something positive for us but by conceding 37 goals, it's hard to do something against a team like Veszprém."

Veszprém

Momir Ilic, coach of Veszprém: "Congratulations to my team for a great victory. Montpellier is a big French team, with a great atmosphere and it's always difficult to come and play in this old venue and I warned my players that this match was going to be tough. We started the match very well with a five-goal advantage after 20 minutes. But then we made too many mistakes, Montpellier scored on the counter-attack, and we were trailing at half-time. In the second half it was much better on defense and we ended up playing really well."

Hugo Descat, left winger of Veszprém: " We knew it was going to be complicated coming to Montpellier, that when Bougnol is full, it's very difficult to play because there is a lot of pressure from the public, and that it's fantastic to play here. At the start of the match, we played at our own pace and we liked it but afterwards they played better. In the second half, we defended better, which allowed us to win."
