Russian strikes on Zaporizhzhia leave 13 injured

Russian airstrikes on the southeastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia have injured at least 13 people, including a 15-year-old boy, Ukrainian officials said on Monday. Several residential buildings were damaged and residents were evacuated by rescue workers, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry said on Telegram.

Initial reports suggest Russia used guided bombs in the attack, the ministry said. Reuters has not been able to independently verify the reports. Russia had no immediate comment.

Zelensky seeks “truly just peace”

Volodomir Zelensky arrived in the United States to attend the UN General Assembly and called on his partners to help achieve “a common victory for a truly just peace.” “This fall will determine the future of this war,” he said in a message posted on the social network X from a plane that was taking him to the state of Pennsylvania.

Ukrainian media later reported that he had arrived in New York. Volodymyr Zelensky is also scheduled to travel to Washington later in the week. The Ukrainian president did not indicate why he was going to Pennsylvania. However, a factory in which 155 mm artillery ammunition is produced, among other things, is located in this state.

In his daily address, Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine is doing everything possible, whether through arms purchases or diplomacy, “to strengthen the support of our partners and push Russia towards peace.” The Ukrinform news agency reported that Volodymyr Zelensky would use his visit to the United States to meet with American business leaders to discuss Ukraine's energy needs, as well as with heads of state and government.

The Ukrainian president announced that he would present a “plan for victory” to his American counterpart, Joe Biden. Zelensky is also expected to discuss the plan with Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris at a meeting scheduled for Thursday, September 26.

Zelensky also hopes to meet with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump during his visit. Trump has said he will likely meet the Ukrainian president this week, but no date has been announced. According to Ukrinform, Zelensky will address a UN summit. He will participate this Tuesday, September 24, in the meetings of the Security Council on Ukraine and will speak the following day before the United Nations General Assembly.
