War in Ukraine: After the earthquake, the Tver region is once again targeted by an explosive attack in Russia

This Saturday, September 21, 2024, new Ukrainian strikes targeted Russian ammunition depots, causing new explosions in the western regions of the country.

Ukrainian strikes targeted two military warehouses in Russia, used in particular to store munitions, on the night of Friday to Saturday, announced the Kiev army.

Two warehouses targeted

The attack targeted the Tikhoretsk site, in the Krasnodar region (southwest), and a second warehouse located in the Tver region (west), the same source said. Russian regional authorities had mentioned drone strikes in these areas, without specifying their targets.

According to our colleagues at Le Monde, 1,200 people were evacuated in the Krasnodar region after a fire at a military base.

Massive explosion

Already this week, a major attack was carried out in the Tvec region by Ukraine. The key for Kiev: the explosion of a large ammunition depot. The explosion triggered an earthquake of magnitude 2.8 and a significant thermal phenomenon was recorded by NASA satellites.

These disturbances did not cause major human damage, assures Igor Rudenia, governor of the Tver region on Telegram : "The most important thing is that our citizens were not seriously injured, there were no dead." The area has been partially evacuated.

According to regional authorities, most of the damage to buildings was caused by broken windows.

This would not be the first time that kyiv has targeted Russia's western regions. Especially since the end of August, Volodymyr Zelensky has been conducting major offensives on the invader's territory.

And in particular, regular drone attacks, which have resulted in the death of civilians and forced thousands of residents to evacuate the region.
