Zelensky says he is “grateful” for his “very productive” meeting with Trump
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he was “grateful” on Friday, September 27, for his “very productive” meeting with Trump with former US President Donald Trump in New York. “I presented him with our plan for victory and we discussed in detail the situation in Ukraine and the consequences of the war for our people,” he said in a message on X.
Indeed, earlier today, Donald Trump pledged to “resolve”the conflict in Ukraine in the event of a victory in the American presidential election next November, at the end of an interview which “should never have taken place, but we will resolve it”, according to the Republican candidate. The day before, the Ukrainian head of state had met with current President Joe Biden at the White House.
China and Brazil warn against threats of nuclear weapons use
China, Brazil and other countries of the South warned on Friday, September 27, against the threat of nuclear weapons use, in a joint statement issued at the end of a ministerial meeting on Ukraine on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the UN.
“We call for refraining from the use and threat of use of weapons of mass destruction, in particular nuclear, chemical and biological weapons”, they write a few days after statements by Russian President Vladimir Putin warning that his country could use nuclear weapons in the event of a”massive launch” airstrikes against Russia.
Russian strikes kill four in the south
Russian strikes killed three people on Friday, September 27, in a port city in the far southwest of Ukraine, near Romania, and another in the center of the country. “The Russians launched attack drones in the south of our region”, wrote Oleg Kiper, governor of the Odessa region. Two elderly women and a man in his 70s were killed, he added. Eleven others were injured, including a child, he said.
Although it is far from the front, the area is sometimes targeted by Russian forces because of the port infrastructure it houses, which is crucial for the transit of goods. Fires broke out as a result of the attack, but were extinguished by firefighters, Oleg Kiper said. The governor released images showing a building engulfed in flames, partially destroyed and with windows blown out.
