An attack attributed by Moscow to Ukraine left 5 dead and 46 injured in Belgorod
Five people were killed and 46 injured in an attack attributed to the Ukrainian army against the city of Belgorod, in southwestern Russia, late Friday, the local governor said. Vyacheslav Gladkov said that 37 of the injured, including seven children, had been taken to hospital.
In an amateur video shot inside a car and shared on social media, another car is seen exploding as it drives along a road, followed by another explosion on the other side of the road. Reuters could not immediately verify the authenticity of the video. Russian authorities said they were investigating.
Ukraine says it repelled another Russian drone attack
Ukraine's air defenses have shot down 24 of the 52 Russian attack drones that attacked the country overnight, while 25 others fell on their own without causing any casualties or significant damage, the Air Force said Saturday. In a statement posted on the Telegram messaging app, the Air Force added that the remaining three drones continued to fly toward Russia and Belarus. Ukraine is using electronic countermeasures to “bring down” hostile drones without them exploding, as well as mobile fighter groups and air defense systems to repel frequent Russian drone and missile attacks.
Air raid warnings sounded repeatedly overnight Friday into Saturday in eight Ukrainian regions, forcing residents to take shelter. In Kiev, where the warnings lasted about four hours, it was the fourth drone attack this week, according to authorities. All drones targeting the city were shot down and no major damage was reported, authorities in the capital said.
Russian drones were also shot down in the regions of Poltava, Cherkassy, Kyrovohrad and Dnipropetrovsk in central Ukraine, Chernihiv and Sumy in the north and Mykolaiv in the south. The Russian military also fired five missiles during the attack, the Ukrainian Air Force said, without giving further details.
Russian shelling kills two in Kharkiv region: governor
A Russian shelling killed two people and wounded 10 others, including children, in a village in Kharkiv on Saturday, the governor of the Ukrainian region said. Oleh Synehubov said Russian forces struck the village of Cherkaska Lozova, damaging a residential building. “Two women died,” the governor said. “One was pulled from the rubble, the other died in an ambulance.”
Oleh Synehubov added that two children were among the wounded. Towns and villages in the northeastern Kharkiv region on the border with Russia have been frequently shelled by Moscow's forces during the 30-month war. A similar Russian attack on the regional center of Kharkiv killed seven people on Friday, local authorities said.
