Russia claims the capture of a new village in eastern Ukraine
Russia claimed the capture of a new village in eastern Ukraine on Sunday, continuing its push into Ukrainian defensive lines without making a major breakthrough at this stage.
"Units of the Vostok group of troops captured the village of Urozhaynoye", Donetsk region, the Russian Defense Ministry announced in its daily report .
This village, located on the Southern front, is close to the Zaporizhia region and was reconquered by the Ukrainian army during its counter-offensive in 2023. Russian troops advanced there on a South-North axis, along the Mokri Yaly river.
Zelensky thanks in French for "the’unwavering assistance" from Paris
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked France in French for its "unwavering assistance" to the’ Ukraine which has been resisting the Russian invasion since February 2022, on the occasion of the national holiday of July 14 on Sunday.
"Congratulations to France, to President Emmanuel Macron and to all French people on the occasion of National Day", he wrote on X. "We will always be grateful for (the) unwavering military, political and other assistance of France, which helped save thousands and thousands of lives in Ukraine. And above all, we are grateful to France for its resolution", he added.
In the United Kingdom, a summit of European leaders with Ukraine and immigration on the menu
The United Kingdom is hosting a European Political Community (EPC) summit on Thursday, attended by more than 45 leaders to discuss, among other things, Ukraine, immigration and energy, said Sunday the British government.
This summit, organized at Blenheim Palace where Winston Churchill was born, will be held less than two weeks after Labor Prime Minister Keir Starmer came to power.
"I said I would change the way the UK engages with its European partners, […] This work begins at the meeting of the European Political Community on Thursday", he said, quoted in a Downing Street statement.

The European Political Community was born in October 2022 with the ambition of strengthening cohesion, cooperation and dialogue between European countries. This is the fourth summit of the CPE.
For the first time, NATO, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the Council of Europe will be present.
