Waste collection: buried bins are relevant again ?

Last week, the two co-presidents of the committee, Marie-Pierre Quesada and Isabelle Saqué, accompanied by members of the Gambetta-Révolution office, invited the residents of the neighborhood to a meeting dedicated to waste management , a major subject for everyone. The meeting was held at the Bar du Midi, on Boulevard Gambetta, in the presence of Priscillia Salelles, chief of staff of Franck Proust, president of Nîmes Métropole, and Zacharie Charmin, head of the operations and user relations department for the waste management.

Around forty people responded to the invitation, mostly retired people. The questions arose, awaiting answers, each raising a claim. Marie-Pierre Quesada provided an overview of the waste problem, which has remained major for several years, here. Adapted proposals, because they are on the ground, have never come to fruition, however. The president recalled, in particular, the action initiated by the office, on Place Saint-Charles, "The appeal of June 18", for a "fed up with illegal dumping" due to the incivility of a number of residents, certainly, but without answers institutional decision-makers. The media coverage had done nothing; it was already in 2016!

Due to the difficulties encountered, due to lack of or poor communication, according to residents (no documents received, bad information, no display), Zacharie Charmin answered precisely the many questions from the audience. He first reminded that all information could be taken from the office on rue Régale; then, he mentioned the difficulty due to the fact that decisions are made at several levels, the municipality being in charge of cleaning the roads. Emphasis was placed on the role of the 8 sorting ambassadors, who go from door to door to explain and remind people of the rules and times for dropping off household waste. The Gambetta district (without the Revolution) will be the last district addressed because, ultimately, the initial proposals of the neighborhood committee, namely those of the bins buried in several points identified by those who have the expertise of users in the field, are again on the desks of technicians and decision-makers in Nîmes Métropole. Zacharie Charmin promised the announcement of "good news", during the general meeting of the neighborhood committee, on April 27 . To be continued, therefore…

Finally, Duncan Mac Lachlan, resident of the neighborhood, member of the Living Environment commission, of the committee office, spoke about the collection of composting: when the individual composters will be delivered, what about their use ? Zacharie Charmin specified that the individual composters will not be delivered before the month of June, due to shortages. Of course, the role of Nîmes Métropole will be to support people towards change.

It was 6:40 p.m., the meeting was coming to an end: the co-presidents warmly thanked the representatives of the Nîmes Métropole delegation; they will have been able to provide adequate responses to reassure residents.
