The city will host the French Elite Short Course Championships from October 31 to November 3 and all the French stars in the long course from June 14 to 19. A huge satisfaction for the mayor of Montpellier, Michaël Delafosse.
After Chartres in 2024, Montpellier will host the French Long Course Swimming Championships. The city's mayor, Michaël Delafosse, has just learned of this and is pleased to see his city organize a major championship after “the continuing Olympic effect. We are happy and extremely proud to host the French Elite Swimming Championships”, he said on Tuesday evening on the sidelines of an extraordinary municipal council meeting.
“A great honor”
And it's not one but two French championships. The first, at the end of the year from October 31 to November 3 in the short course, but above all, the second, from June 14 to 19, 2025 with the French Elite long course championship: “And what does that mean”?”, asks the chief magistrate. “That means we're waiting for Léon Marchand and all his Olympic medals. It is a great honour for us to be so recognised on the sporting level, with the organisation of this type of event,” he rejoices.
Léon Marchand should be present to ensure the minimums for the world championships which take place a month later from July 11 to August 3, 2025 in Singapore. And other big stars of the pools will also be there, including all those who secured medals in the relay.
Of course, it is also a great satisfaction for Philippe Jamet, president of the Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole Université Club natation: “It's great, we will have everyone in this post-Olympic year. I hope that the public will still be connected to the great success of the Olympic Games,” he says.
