A petition has been launched by residents of the La Font Neuve district in Béziers to oppose the installation of a 5G relay (six 18-meter-high antennas) by the operator Free on the roof of a residential building. It has collected around fifty signatures so far.
Residents of the Font-Neuve district in Béziers are particularly worried. Indeed, by authorization of August 22, the Béziers city hall granted the telephone company Free Mobil the authorization to install six antennas of a 5G relay at a height of 18 meters on the roof of the building at 52 rue Edouard-Branly.
Hicham Errami, who opposes this project, launched a petition: "We condemn this installation without consultation, given the potential risks due to direct exposure to electromagnetic fields electromagnetic”, he believes.
“In the name of the precautionary principle and public health”
“Because of its location on the roof of a residential building, it is a source of stress. This petition is part of the desire to take shelter, the precautionary principle in the name of public health and respect for the environment”. The petition has already collected more than 50 signatures, from residents of the building but also from local residents worried about the proliferation of these relays in the city. And it continues to circulate in the neighborhood.
For its part, the City of Béziers explains: "The environmental and urban planning departments gave their agreement because there is no problem, no sensitive site nearby, the homes are not considered sensitive sites. Nothing justified a veto".
