Weather alert: Gard placed on yellow heatwave alert this Sunday, July 28

Alors que Météo France a placé treize départements du Sud de la France en alerte orange, 27 départements, dont le Gard, passent en vigilance jaune dès minuit ce dimanche 28 juillet.

The already very high temperatures of this Saturday, July 27th could have suggested it: Météo France has just placed the Gard on yellow heatwave alert for this Sunday, July 28th.

This heatwave episode concerns 22 other departments in the south of France, also placed on yellow alert and 13 departments which are moving to orange alert (Gironde, Landes, Dordogne, Lot-et-Garonne, Gers, Haute-Garonne, Tarn-et-Garonne, Lot, Corrèze, Tarn, Savoie, Haute-Savoie and Haute-Corse). Météo France is forecasting very high temperatures from Sunday to Wednesday in the south of the country, temporarily extending to the north of the country during the week.

This Sunday, in Nîmes, temperatures could reach 36 °C (feels like 40 °C) while on Monday, the thermometer will rise to 38 °C (feels like 42 °C). A situation that should continue in the coming days.

Beware of sunburn!

At the seaside, in Grau-du-Roi, beware of fans of lazing around on the beach! While temperatures should not exceed 31 °C, the feeling will be close to 40 °C while the UV index will be 9. Sun protection is therefore mandatory.

As a reminder, without protection, with a UV index higher than 8, the skin can burn. Exposure to the sun can be dangerous between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. ~h. It is recommended to wear long clothing, a hat and sunglasses, as well as to apply a very high protection sunscreen (index +50).

Météo France does not rule out an “extension of the orange alert to other departments in the south of the country” in the coming days.
