Weather cocktail: caution on the roads in eastern Quebec

Motorists will have to be careful on the roads today in Quebec City since after a heavy snowfall combined with blowing snow overnight from Saturday to Sunday, freezing rain is falling on the region.

A winter storm warning is in effect for Bellechasse, Côte-de-Beaupré — L’Île-d’Orléans, Lévis, Lotbinière, Portneuf, Québec, Saint-Lambert and Valcartier — Stoneham.

Less than a millimeter of ice is expected in these areas this morning, according to Environment Canada, which specifies that the precipitation will change to rain by midday.

“Roads, streets, sidewalks and parking lots could become icy and slippery. There could be significant repercussions on rush hour traffic in urban areas, ”says the federal organization.

Minor overflows could also occur in the coastal areas of the aforementioned sectors.

For its part, Eastern Quebec is entitled to a real snowstorm. We expect between 15 and 20 cm in a large part of the Bas-Saint-Laurent. While the North Shore can expect to see an accumulation of snow of up to 30 cm between Les Escoumins and Port-Cartier.

For its part, Saguenay — Lac-Saint-Jean should receive around ten centimeters of snow on its territory during the day.

Moderate to intense winds will however cause blowing snow over all of these regions throughout the day. Visibility on the roads could therefore be affected.
