We’re off to a record cruise season in Quebec

The cruise season is launched in Quebec City and promises to break records.

A first giant of the seas arrived Friday morning at Pointe-à-Carcy. The Veendam of the Holland America Line is a regular at the Port of Quebec: it is in his 85th stop.

The Quebec Port Authority (QPA) is expecting 38 separate vessels with 26 different cruise lines for a total of 156 stopovers by early November. It’s more than in 2017, already a record year. More than 200,000 visitors landed on the quays of the Old Port.

Premiere: a boat operated by Disney will come to Quebec in 2018. Starting from New York, the ship Disney Magic , its well-known animators and 2713 passengers will stop at Baie-Comeau and Saguenay, then complete their cruise in Quebec City on September 26 . Two days later, it will be a new departure in the opposite direction with different customers.

Windstar Cruises, which covers the Maritimes and the US East Coast, will also be calling at the ports of the St. Lawrence for the first time.

The schedule of vessels is available on the Port of Québec website. Be aware, however, that the Queen Mary 2 , a favorite of Quebecers, will be docked from September 29 to October 1. The peak of the season will coincide with the Thanksgiving weekend, from October 5 to 8, with 56,000 passengers.

“We are working very hard with a number of partners to bring the Canada / New England route to the world. The year 2018 demonstrates that the efforts invested in business development are paying off and that the mobilization of local stakeholders is essential to the development of this strategic activity sector for the outreach of the city of Quebec, “said Mario Girard, President Director-General of the APQ, in a press release issued Friday.
