La Ville de Sète s’est positionnée pour récupérer le parquet où l’équipe de France de volley-ball a brillé lors des Jeux Olympiques de Paris.

If all goes well, and the Sète file is accepted, it could well be that the volleyball players of the Arago of Sète will evolve – when their new hall is delivered at the end of 2025 – on the floor that hosted the volleyball matches during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. A floor on which, let us recall, the French team won the gold medal for the second time in a row.

Recycled Olympic equipment

“We will not be able to have the Olympic Games logo on it, explains Hervé Marqués, the sports assistant, who applied before the competition was even over. If this is done, we have asked that a sort of reminder plate be placed on it". Indeed, as part of the organization of the world event, the organizers had wanted most of the equipment used to be recycled. In the coming weeks, many small items will be broken down during exchanges.

Financial gain

But for large equipment, the matter is settled by an application file. The one in Sète would be in a good position for this blessed land.“After the only problem that we can encounter is that we have to find someone who will collect it, store it while the work on the Marty hall is being carried out, and then who will be able to reassemble it”, notes the elected sports representative. This operation would also be interesting for the city's finances: “a new parquet floor costs 80,000 euros, this one we would have for 20,000 euros”. We will know more in the coming days. While hoping that the Sète volleyball players benefit from the good vibes of this court to shine in turn.

Simone Biles' apparatus?

These vibes could also concern the city's gymnasts. Indeed, Hervé Marqués has also positioned himself to try to recover apparatus that was used in the champions' warm-up sessions. From there, the gymnasts of the Vincent-Ferrari hall practicing their sport on the vaulting table or the asymmetric bars used by Simone Biles, that would have a certain cachet…
