The number of migrants who took the Roxham Road exploded in 2022 in Quebec after a slowdown during the two pandemic years. Some 39,675 migrants crossed the border by land to seek asylum in Quebec, or 43% of asylum seekers in Canada as a whole. Before the pandemic in 2019, that number was much lower, at 16,660. Men, women and children from all over the planet sometimes traveled thousands of miles to reach the Canadian border.
