Due to the major sporting events coming in 2024 in France, the security forces will be called upon a lot. The prefect is already warning that the numbers will be lower in Hérault with multiple consequences…

The year 2024 will be very busy from a sporting point of view with the Olympic Games from July 26 to August 11. Several delegations will previously train in Montpellier and the flame will pass to Sète and Montpellier on May 13.

Another event, more one-off: the Tour de France cyclist will cross Hérault on July 16, during the Gruissan-Nîmes stage. It is above all the holding of the Olympic Games which will mobilize the security forces in the Paris region.

No CRS lifeguards on the beaches

For Hérault, one of the consequences will be the absence of CRS lifeguards on the beaches of Hérault, in particular in La Grande-Motte and Valras, in the summer of 2024. "We will have lifeguards from Sdis and associations, however explained the prefect. But we will also not have the mobile security force units that we usually have. To reorganize the system, we will call on the reserves of the police and gendarmerie, we will play on the leave of police officers and gendarmes, and we will look to what extent we will be able to benefit from staff coming from departments non-touristy. This will require in particular reinforcement of municipal police and reduction of the festive program."
