La Guilde de l’Histoire est prête pour trois représentations de sa grande saga historique au château de Cornillon, jeudi, vendredi et samedi.
Initially founded by Pascal Thourez, the association of friends of the Guild of History, now led by Patrick Grandjean and Yves Espeyt, presents a unique show in a setting of circumstance. The association is supported by sixty very active volunteers, of all generations, and residents of the entire sector. Since 2018, all together, they have created shows retracing the events that took place locally throughout the history of our region. The writing, costumes and accessories are created by the skill and skills of a very motivated team. In 2023, more than 650 spectators discovered their creation, at the Vénéjan mill. This year, go to the Château de Cornillon to discover La Nuit des temps, 2,000 years of Rhone history which should, once again, enchant the audience, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The show is set in three major eras, without intermission, a great saga!
From Antiquity to the Hundred Years' War
Act I: from Antiquity to the Hundred Years' War. It all begins in the old days when the Volques Arecomiques (not very comical) gave Hannibal a helping hand to oppose the Roman invader. The latter, finally installed within their walls at the oppidum of Gaujac, finished colonizing the territory.
A new religion takes shape and overshadows Pope Clement who orders the crusade against the Albigensians in 1229, a conflict which will last thirty years and end with the loss of independence of Languedoc.
The Liberation of Bagnols
Bertrand Du Guesclin was 8 years old in 1328 when Philip VI, King of France, and Edward III of England decided to fight over a dark story of crown, triggering a conflict that would last a century. Through his military successes, the Constable of France would trace a sublime path for the saint doomed to the stake. Act II: from the Renaissance to the Grand Siècle. Then came the Wars of Religion and their procession of misery. The Baron des Adrets, a not very Catholic neighbor on the left bank of the King River, will make bloody incursions into our geography and throw his prisoners alive from the top of the Mornas fortress.
Under Louis XIII, the people of Bagnolais are divided, some remain loyal to the monarch, others support the revolt of a great lord. All for one, the musketeers will restore order, the castle will be razed.
François Antoine, Louis XV's lieutenant of wolf hunting, will shoot a beast that was spreading terror in the region.
Act III: from the Revolution to the present day. Admiral Bompard engages his frigate, a privateer ship, against the squadrons of perfidious Albion. The 1940s with the war: the resistance is organized, the Vigan Braquet commando liberates Bagnols on August 26, 1944.
Life since then flows peacefully along the banks of the Cèze until the devastating floods of 2002.
See you on Friday and Saturday evening (Thursday's performance is sold out) to attend this great historical fresco. Then, volunteers will be able to focus on preparing a new show and other projects (many!).
