According to witnesses, it was a wolf that attacked the child. If the young victim is doing well, she would have been “trampled or jostled” by a canine on Wednesday while out walking, local authorities said.

An investigation has been opened to confirm that it is indeed a wolf, and not a dog. DNA tests will help identify the species that attacked the child.

Hundreds of hectares cordoned off

According to our colleagues, several similar accidents have occurred in the region. Including two major ones: a dog had been taken by a wolf and a young girl had been bitten earlier in July.

Since the 18th of the month, 600 to 700 hectares of the 2,000-hectare territory have been sealed off. But according to the manager of the vast estate, this sealing off is too random. Three wolves and five wolf cubs are said to be living in the Den Treek forest estate.
