The death of a former mayor
#HERAULT – The atmosphere was heavy on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at the Vendargues horse festival, after the admission to intensive care of former mayor Pierre Dudieuzère, victim of a stroke.“The brain was badly damaged, there was no hope”, his family announced on Monday, September 30, announcing his death at the age of 77. Mayor for 31 years, he was at the origin of many developments in his city, 6,000 inhabitants today. The tensions that they often fueled did not prevent him from being very appreciated by his constituents and his peers. Many tributes have been paid to him since Monday, September 30.
Today's figure: 18,700
#OCCITANIE – In the region, just over 18,700 young people were trained in crafts through an apprenticeship contract in the 2022-2023 school year, according to a report by the Institut Supérieur des Métiers and MAAF. This represents an increase of 6% over one year, after an already net jump of 19% the previous year. These apprenticeship contracts are mainly signed in the construction industry, but the biggest increase is observed in the service sector.
In Nîmes, Purple Campus opens its 19th establishment
#TRAINING – 90 training courses and 11,000 apprentices throughout Occitanie. Purple Campus is a key player in local training. On Monday, September 30, 2024, a 19th campus was inaugurated in Nîmes, which completes the Gard offer of Purple Campus, which until then was offered in Alès, Marguerittes and Grau-du-Roi. This campus will occupy "from March 2025 in the future Maison de l’Entreprise", the sumptuous building constructed on the edge of the future Jacques-Chirac park. In the meantime, classes are held in the Eerie building, Georges-Besse park. The president of Purple Campus Occitanie and president of the Hérault Chamber of Commerce and Industry, André Djelarry, highlighted the “exam success rate of 84% and a hiring rate of 91% within six months of graduation”, thanks in particular to the link with 11,700 partner companies.
The Casino d’Odysseum hypermarket has closed
#MONTPELLIER – Casino brands are gradually disappearing from the landscape. In financial difficulty, the Saint-Etienne group has sold hundreds of its stores to Carrefour, Auchan and Intermarché, all transfers that will take place on October 1, 2024. But some have not found a buyer, like the 20,000 square meter hypermarket located in the Odysseum shopping center where the very high rent has not allowed candidates to be found. This Monday, September 30, 2024, it therefore definitively closed its doors in front of the last customers who came to do good business despite spectacularly empty shelves. “It's a shame that it has come to this”, regrets one of the 80 employees left behind. Before leaving, they will clear the space, in order to prepare a cleaning operation that will allow the building to be returned to its initial state. It could then be divided into several lots, in order to offer more affordable rents and find new brands. The future of Odysseum, a temple of consumption, may depend on it.
Wolves in Margeride
#LOZERE – A cattle breeder came to deposit the carcass of a calf in front of the Mende departmental territorial directorate (DDT) on Monday, September 30, 2024, to denounce the attack on his herd by a wolf, the second in a week on his farm located in Chaudeyrac, in Margeride. Faced with state representatives who had come down to see the irreparable situation, the farmer, accompanied by members of the Rural Coordination, demanded measures to deal with “wolf packs” that are said to be ever more numerous. “Many no longer report attacks. Nothing is happening”, added a protester in a tense atmosphere. The administration responded that it is awaiting directives from the top of the state and from Europe.
