World Championship: skier Laurence St-Germain is confident of having signed her best result of the year

DAY

Despite a rocky season, skier Laurence St-Germain is confident she can do well at the world championship after posting her best result of the year two weeks ago in the Czech Republic.

His seventh place at Spindleruv Mlyn on 29 January instilled a dose of confidence in St-Germain.

“For the first time of the season, I had two good runs at the height of my potential,” she said of her best result of the season. I had a good start instead of waiting 15 gates before getting my rhythm and I attacked. It was a big relief when I crossed the finish line and saw that I was able to put together two good runs in a row. »

It's in this state of mind that St-Germain will show up in the starting gate on February 18 in Méribel.

“I have to keep the same approach and not hold back at the risk of missing a door and having to go back up,” she explained. I don't want to think about the result, but rather focus on my game plan.

“In training, I know my best moments of the season and I want to transpose the quality of my skiing in the race, to continue the native of Saint-Ferréol-les-Neiges. I have to be consistent without making mistakes. It is possible to come back in force and I can surprise myself. A big result could redeem a season marked by disappointments, but it's still a race like any other. »

Questioning

St-Germain questioned itself over the holiday season after two tougher outings. A 26th place and going off the track in the first round at Semmering in Austria affected her.

“It was a little tough over the holidays,” she admitted. I never wondered about my future and I didn't panic, but I was really disappointed 24 hours after the races. That's why I have a team around me to help me. My return home and school after the World Cup in Flachau helped me and allowed me to have a good preparation for the Czech Republic and the world. »

After a world without spectators in 2021 in Cortina d'Ampezzo in 2021, St-Germain is happy to find the excitement of a race with fans.

“ I like the excitement and atmosphere surrounding a world championship. I manage the pressure of this type of event well and it helps me to perform. The return of the great atmosphere in Méribel will really help me. »

Last year, St-Germain finished in 11e Méribel World Cup place. Before heading to France on the 15th, Germain is taking a little break in Tuscany and will resume training at the weekend, still in Italy.
