The quietest place on Earth is in the United States, and no one can stay there for more than an hour.

Environments considered ultra-quiet are generally louder than the human threshold of hearing, which is around 0 decibels. The total silence thus gradually turns into an unbearable buzzing in your ears. You might even lose your balance, as the lack of reverberation in the room influences your spatiotemporal cues.

In the United States, in Minneapolis, another anechoic chamber hopes to obtain the title of the place the quietest in the world. Ambient sound is -24.9 dBA, according to Steven J. Orfield, who designed the space. She previously held the record.
