Montreal-born Yassine Bounou, an important part of Morocco's fabulous run at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, is among the finalists for the 2022 FIFA Goalkeeper of the Year award.< /strong>

In December, the 31-year-old helped Morocco reach the semi-finals of the prestigious tournament, a first for an African country. Bounou played six games, allowing only five goals and eliminating tough opponents like the Spaniards and the Portuguese. He also defeated his country of origin, Canada, in the group stage.

In the Spanish Liga, the representative of Sevilla FC was one of the best goalkeepers in the competition in 2021- 2022 giving up just 24 goals in 31 appearances. He also had 13 shutouts.

Bounou will face Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. The latter won the World Cup Golden Glove by helping Argentina win the final, on penalties ahead of France.

On the women's side, Ann-Katrin Berger (Chelsea), Mary Earps (Manchester United) and Christiane Endler (Olympique Lyonnais) are the finalists.

The recipients of the FIFA of the Year awards will be announced on February 27, at a ceremony special organized in Paris.
