10 cases of dengue fever recorded in the same district of a commune in Vaucluse, streets and gardens cleared of mosquitoes

Sainte-Cécile-les-Vignes in Vaucluse has recorded new cases of dengue fever. A first case was recorded on August 14, 2024 in the town.

Enough to drive you crazy. Dengue fever has spread to a town in northern Vaucluse. The case recorded on August 14 has made it possible to identify several other cases in the same neighborhood.

Native cases

The ARS Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur declared in a press release: “The declaration of a first case of dengue fever by a health professional on August 14 allowed the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur regional health agency to identify in the same district of this municipality the case of imported dengue fever and several [nine] native cases”, on France Info.

The ARS then explains what an indigenous case is. This is when a person develops an illness in metropolitan France, without having been in a contaminated area, 15 days before having symptoms.

Mosquito control

France Bleue reveals that mosquito control has been carried out in private gardens and on public roads. "The objective: to eliminate larval breeding sites and eliminate potentially infected adult mosquitoes to prevent them from biting other people in the neighborhood" explains the ARS, Friday, a second operation will be launched.

Hundreds of homes have been alerted to the appearance of dengue cases in the neighborhood. Awareness of the disease and the behaviors to adopt were presented to them.
