Joy, music, colors took over the city of Pescalune, this Saturday afternoon, March 23, for the first edition of the new carnival.

The upstream mobilization of the municipality, numerous city associations and dozens of volunteers will not have been in vain given the 3,000 people – and probably more – who participated at the carnival this Saturday, March 23.

From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., the heart of Lunel was literally taken by storm. By the floats obviously, but above all by the people of Lunel, young and old, who radiated joy, smiles and colors in the ranks of the immense parade which crisscrossed the city center.

A gap filled

Flashmobs, music galore, throwing confetti brought the population together in a jubilation which – except during Pescalune in July – had not been seen or experienced for a very long time in the city .

For the 6th deputy for children and youth Sonia Mokaddem, one of the instigators of the event, "success and mobilization of all clearly show that there was a lack and a real expectation of the people of Lunel for this type of meeting".

The marriage of Albin and Ninon

Among the highlights, a stop on the square in front of the town hall recalled the marriage of Albin and Ninon, the two lovers of the legend of Pescalune, the common thread given to this first carnival and to all those who will follow.

From the balcony of the town hall, the young couple and many elected officials threw bags of confetti to the crowd (500 kg were distributed free of charge throughout the entire event) as well as candy before the slow and long procession continues its route.

Baron Gaucelm behind bars

At the end of the afternoon, and back in Jean-Hugo Park, the carnival-goers witnessed not the burning of Monsieur Carnaval but the imprisonment of the Baron Gaucelm behind bars.

Bodega, music and inflatable games allowed the last carnival-goers to continue the party until the evening. As for the question of whether a second edition is on the horizon, it does not even arise!
