Several associations and left-wing political parties had called for a rally against the arrival of the leader of Reconquest, this Tuesday evening, in a room in Garosud. 400 people responded to this call but were kept away from the site by a police cordon.

"Zemmour get lost, Montpeul' is anti-fa". Passing through Montpellier this Tuesday evening where they gathered his supporters, Eric Zemmour will undoubtedly not have heard the clamors indicating that he was not welcome in the city. In the afternoon, Mayor Michaël Delafosse himself wrote on of the beliefs of our city.

At the call of several associations, organizations and left-wing political parties, around 400 people, including many young people, nevertheless tried for a long time to approach the Dièze room where the Reconquest party had organized this meeting placed under surveillance.

Face to face with the police

The meeting took place inside the Alain-Bashung park, in the heart of the Saint-Martin city. Instructions from the organizers in the darkness of the premises: "we stay together, we remain careful". The procession then set off behind the banner "Against Zemmour, Montpellier is anti-racist" in the direction, not of the meeting place but of the Prés-d'Arènes roundabout. "This is the route which was declared to the prefecture" ended up releasing a member of the security service to explain this bifurcation which surprised part of the demonstration.

Some confusion

In front of the roundabout, a call for dispersal was actually launched and several dozen activists left the parade. "It's normal in the event of incidents they do not want to be held responsible. Now she's a savage,” remarked the member of an antifa group. Despite this certain confusion, the majority of participants, eager to return to the room, turned around to join rue de l'Industrie where, this time a cordon of police had been positioned and prohibited access towards Garosud. After a few minutes of this face-to-face meeting at a distance without any real tensions, the last groups chose to turn back.

More than 500 meters from the meeting where Eric Zemmour intended to gather nearly 450 supporters.
