In a social housing sector in very deep crisis, the new full minister of the Barnier government knows she is highly anticipated. She has promised to be very attentive.

The newly appointed Minister of Housing, Valérie Létard, is highly anticipated to deliver her first measures. A priori, she should do so in Montpellier at the 84th HLM Congress, organized until Thursday at the Pérols exhibition center.

The arrival of Valérie Létard has aroused enthusiasm among housing stakeholders. And in particular Emmanuelle Cosse, President of the Social Union for Housing, former Minister of Housing under the presidency of François Hollande: “We have already given her strength by appointing her as a full minister, it is a strong sign. Because I have known governments in the past that wanted to make housing invisible,” she assured this Tuesday, September 24, at the opening of the Congress.

Two experiences as Secretary of State

The 61-year-old centrist MP, close to Jean-Louis Borloo, is known for having great expertise in the field of housing. And she will need a lot of expertise in a sector, that of social housing, in major crisis. She has already promised to be more attentive than her predecessor Guillaume Kasbarian by promising to “tell the housing world the special attention we pay them and the HLM Congress is the place where the entire housing universe will be found”.

Valérie Létard was appointed Secretary of State under Nicolas Sarkozy. At Solidarity in 2007, where she worked on autism and the schooling of disabled children, the fight against sexist violence, and on a solidarity plan for the elderly. Then in 2009, while in charge of Green Technologies and Climate Negotiations, she participated in the Copenhagen climate summit, organized by the UN.

According to our information, the minister is expected this Wednesday, September 25 at the Parc Expo. A priori, rather late in the morning. Perhaps she will come to conclude the plenary session on the theme: “Ecological transition: regulate or innovate ?”. There is much to say. But above all, it will be expected to answer the major questions already raised throughout this first day of the congress… Expectations are immense to resume construction, which has been in sharp decline for two years…
