"People were getting on each other", assures Ollivier Abello, sitting at one of the tables at Napo, in the company of Pascal Mury. The two men, friends for around fifteen years, have joined forces since mid-December with Jean-Claude Coulet, to take over the reins of this Nîmes institution located on Boulevard Victor-Hugo. With the desire to revitalize this establishment "which had been a little dormant for several years". Like this sea urchinade which brought together many gourmands, the new managers plan to organize a seafood day one Sunday a month, in a "a bit of a tavern" atmosphere. ;.
From now on, Napo opens Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings until 1 a.m., with the possibility of eating and enjoying a cocktail while enjoying a musical atmosphere. Other evenings, "where we will push the tables", are of' already planned. Like that of next March 9 where a fanfare should make customers dance on the occasion of the anniversary of the feria, created in fact at Napo on March 5, 1952. Or at like the one hosted by the Avignon duo Benedetto & Farina. Other local DJs should also come and ignite the establishment.
A terrace on the side of the Maison Carrée
"Until now, the establishment has not developed its evening offering even though there is a real request", says Ollivier Abello. The new team wishes to continue to preserve what makes the Napo special, namely welcoming young students as well as working people and retirees under its gilding and moldings. "We want to reach everyone", adds Pascal Mury. A "nice challenge" for the two men who will also bring their expertise after years spent at the head of Jean-Jaurès. "We wanted something else", confides Ollivier Abello who continues to manage both establishments.
As a Nîmes native, the latter frequented the Napo, as a teenager, "when the Alary brothers still held it and he's there was the counter in the middle. Hence his attachment to this establishment and to Jean-Claude Coulet, " ;my first boss at Café Carré". It didn't take him long to decide to embark on this new adventure, following the departure of two of the previous partners. The three friends have today Other projects for the Napo, notably that of opening a terrace on the Maison Carrée side. The establishment benefits from access to the square where the building is located. Enough to make this brewery opened in 1813 shine even more.
