Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant, who returned at the end of December from a long suspension, injured his shoulder on Saturday and will miss the rest of the NBA season, his franchise announced Monday.
"During practice on Saturday, Ja Morant suffered a subluxation of his right shoulder. An MRI revealed an underlying labrum tear. He will have surgery and miss the rest of the season to be fully recovered for the 2024-25 season, the Grizzlies wrote in a press release.
The blow is hard for Memphis, which had found some color with its 24-year-old leader (7 wins, 4 defeats since his return) and hoped to move up the rankings (currently 13th in the Western Conference).

Ja Morant returned on December 19 after a 25-game suspension for posting images of himself brandishing firearms last year. Before his return, the American explained that he had benefited from therapy which gave him "a new outlook on life”.
