Kevin Mayer, double Olympic silver medalist injured in his thigh less than a month before the Olympic decathlon, promises to use every minute of his career. which separates him "to increase (his) chances of participating" at the Paris Games, he wrote on Tuesday July 9 on social networks.

Falling in the middle of the 110 m hurdles at the Paris meeting on Sunday, on the track at the Charléty stadium, Mayer suffered from a "significant injury to his level of the left hamstring" which compromises his participation in the 2024 Olympics, his entourage indicated on Monday.

"It’s very hard to find the words today. Everything seems unreal since this fall. I was hoping for the chance to express myself in the Stade de France at the Olympic Games. The road seems much longer today", estimates the double Olympic vice-champion (2016 and 2021) and double world decathlon champion (2017 and 2022).

"Count on me to use every minute that separates us from the decathlon to increase my chances of participating", he continues.

At 32, Mayer only qualified for his fourth Olympics down to the wire, in June at the European Championships in Rome, with dreams of Olympic gold on the purple track of the Stade de France. The Olympic decathlon is scheduled for August 2 and 3, on the first two days of the athletics events at the Stade de France.
