In just a few days, the initiative has already attracted attention in Palavas: a library "outside the walls" which allows you to lie down on a deck chair on the sand and in the shade. Reading with a breathtaking view, what more could you ask for ?

Opposite the Saint-Pierre Institute in Palavas, a small beach equipped with deckchairs appeared this year. And it has the advantage of welcoming those who wish to read for free, because it is the town's media library “outside the walls”.

Some 2,000 books and the press

It is thus possible to relax in a deck chair in the shade while devouring one of the many books on offer (some 2,000 copies) or to leaf through the daily press.

The Read at the Sea initiative set up by the Department has therefore taken up residence on this stretch of beach, with the two essential Palavas librarians Capucine and Angélique at the helm.

A thoughtful welcome

“Here it’is paradise”, declares Capucine with a huge smile in her sunny accent. La Palavasienne pur jus always works attentively so that everyone can spend a pleasant and serene time in the fresh air. And everything is planned for: tables and coloring for children, supplemented with activities and entertainment following the program and the rejuvenating calm with the sound of the waves and the refreshing wind for those who like take a reading break…

The workshops
– The sea, the coast and people, awareness raising biodiversity marine and lagoon from 10 h 30 à 12:30 p.m. Wednesday July 17. All audiences.
– 14-hour reading marathon   5 p.m., Tuesday July 23. Teenage audience by reservation.
– Me, comic book character from 2pm à 5 p.m., Tuesday July 30. À from 10 years old by reservation
– The art of kirigami with themes: the gods of Olympus and a butterfly in a 14-hour pop-up card. 4 p.m., Thursday July 25. À from 10 years old and all audiences by reservation.
– Musical nap: jazz & 11 a.m., Monday 12 August. Teen and adult audience.
– Escape game: “The Shadow of the Golem” from 2 p.m. à 5 p.m., Tuesday August 13. À from 12 years old by reservation.
– 14-hour play-based writing workshop 5 p.m., Wednesday August 21. À from 11 years old by reservation.

Activities
– Racontines on the beach, a session dedicated to toddlers to offer them a first approach to the book from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. 1 p.m., July 11, 18, 23, 25, 30 and July 1, 6, 8, 15, 20, 22, 27 August. Children aged 0 & 5 years.
– Bricolobidouille creative workshops, to create a personalized mini-book and bookmark from 10 hours to 10 minutes. 1 p.m., every Friday. À from 6 years old.
– Playing games on the beach: board games invite themselves to the beach from 3 p.m. 6 p.m. every Friday except July 19. All audiences.

– Giant wooden games and children's albums from 10 hours to 30 minutes 12 p.m., Tuesday July 16. À from 6 years old.
– Family show “On the road to Olympus” by Robin Appeal from 5 p.m. à 6 p.m., Friday July 19. À from 9 years old.

The books can be read on site. You cannot borrow them at the water's edge. And the classic rules of a library apply, but with a breathtaking view.
