Les Costières de l’art, an artistic and epicurean stroll

New event, Les Costières de l’art presents six exhibitions of contemporary art across the areas of Costières de Nîmes.

This is one of the lovely new features of the cultural summer in the Gard. Les Costières de l’art invites you to stroll through the vineyard, for an epicurean encounter between wine and contemporary art. "The goal is to introduce both art and the territory", explains Laurie Gagliano, one of the organizers.

The route is divided into six stages, in dialogue with the gestures of the winegrowers. At the Poulvarel estate in Sernhac, artists gather around the "Maturation of the work". Château Mourgues du grès in Beaucaire brings together visual artists around "The assembly of colors". In total, the Costières de l’art brings together 75 works, signed by around twenty recognized or emerging artists.

Looking towards the Mediterranean

South of Costières, four projects are grouped around Franquevaux and Gallician. Fanny Boyer from Château Beaubois is delighted to participate in the event. She is used to exhibiting artists in her cellar and turning to wine tourism. "This allows us to bring culture to our customers and welcome others to introduce them to wine culture. This offers a bridge between art and tasting", she explains. In the cellar, the public can first discover the delicate ceramics of Julia Morlot, who works around the body and the intimate.

The walk continues in the open air with "Songes de la Méditerranée". In this part of Costières, where vines grow in the salty air, artists celebrate this sunny land with an ode to contemplation. Jean Denant presents a chaise longue, exhibited at the Tuileries for the Fiac, as well as a variation of brick and concrete around the shape of amphoras, which have transported wine across the Mediterranean since Antiquity.< /p>

With a textile installation crossed by the wind, Damien Poulain evokes laundry drying in windows. Its chromatic composition between ocher, blue and ecru manages to capture the Mediterranean landscape with accuracy and sobriety.

Looking at the landscape

Swirls and marine movements are found in the brushed mirrors and volcanic stones of Camille Rousseau's telluric composition. The young fine arts student Noa Rémond scatters her embroidery inspired by the landscape, inviting the eye to grasp the environment differently.

At the Gallician Signature cellar, between the vats, the public finds Damien Poulain and his installation The Flag of the ephemeral pavillion, produced for Villa Noailles. With its silk banners, the work inspired by heraldry recalls the maritime signals that punctuated trade across the Mediterranean. The exhibition "Words of Wine" is a carte blanche to the Nîmes School of Fine Arts. Jean-Claude Gagnoieux plays with humor around evils. Laia Rabuteau Perez is interested in balance. Doria Dos Santos talks about sedimentation. The painter Quentin Duvivier uses family archives, notably his grandparents' café, for a striking canvas.

Still a fine arts student, Quentin Duvillier works around family memory.

At the same time, the Costières de l’art offer walks in the vineyards. With Gardiens des sarments, Camille Rousseau creates a work of land art like a wave of stumps which seizes a maset in the middle of the vineyard of Guiot castle. Around the noria of the Gassier estate, the collective  Wakkeko, formed by Denis XXII, Swan Soto, Jérémy Tézenas and Picasta, reinterprets the motif of "shidé", a Shinto symbol, notably using fabrics of the Indians of Nîmes for a still journey between Costière and the distance.

Until August 15. 5 € the exhibition, with tasting. Pass 30 €. Complete program costieresdelart.fr
