He dies in a collision after a refusal to comply

#PERPIGNAN A vehicle pursued by the police, after a refusal to comply, crashed into a parked truck in Perpignan on Sunday. The collision cost the life of the driver and his passenger is seriously injured. The refusal to comply took place early in the afternoon, during a traffic stop, the prosecutor said.

The driver, born in 1994, then headed towards the city centre, followed by the police, before losing control of his vehicle. The young man who died was “well known for traffic offences. He ran a large number of red lights, endangering road users”, said the prosecutor.

Travellers at the quay

#SÈTE Between Tuesday 23 and Saturday 27 July, more than 250 travellers were stuck in the Sète ferry terminal waiting for their boat to Oran in Algeria. The families camped on the ground for five days before the Algeria Ferries boat finally set sail early Sunday afternoon.

The transport company had granted some compensation for the hotel and parking fees, but it was not enough. Without a specific contact person, according to them, the passengers had no explanation regarding the causes of this delay. The Algérie Ferries company has been experiencing multiple problems with its fleet since the beginning of the season.

Today's figure: 191

#GARD Saturday July 27, a motorcyclist traveling on the A9 in the Orange-Narbonne direction was intercepted near Lédenon while traveling at 191 km/h. The Alpine of the Gallargues motorway platoon quickly caught up with the vehicle, which will be impounded for seven days.

The driver also had his driving licence revoked on the spot. The police remind us that speed is one of the main causes of accidents in the Gard.

Motorists, watch out for cats!

#GARD New road signs have appeared in the town of Mages, north of Alès. For two weeks, the red triangles that usually signal the passage of wild animals have displayed the drawing of a cat. Unprecedented.

Behind this initiative, the association “Les chats Mages” which works to protect cats and slow their proliferation in the village… "Our activity has led us to receive many calls for runover cats", explains the treasurer of the organization. To raise awareness among the public, and especially among motorists, of the presence of cats, signs marked with a large “Attention!” have been hung by the town hall's technical services in three areas of the town, at the entrance in particular.

“The mayor immediately accepted the idea, especially if it allows drivers to slow down,” says a volunteer. Since these signs were installed, the association has not picked up any dead cats.

There will be twenty candidates, designated during the various local elections, competing for one of the fourteen finalist places. The public can vote from 10 a.m. this Monday on the Instagram page comitemisslanguedoc.
