Heatwave: fan, air conditioning… what is the cheapest way to cool your home ?

During this heatwave, many people are looking to cool off by any means possible, no matter the cost. But between air conditioning and fan, which is more expensive?

For several weeks, the thermometer has not gone down at nightfall. These stifling heat waves can prevent some people from getting to sleep. In fact, the question of buying a fan or air conditioning may arise. But which of the two is more cost-effective ?

The fan, more economical

The fan, while not creating cold air, can nevertheless allow you to fall asleep more easily on very hot nights. According to BFMTV, when models with a maximum power of between 50 and 70 watts operate for an entire night, this requires between 0.4 kWh and 0.56 kWh of electricity each night.

The bill can thus rise to 8 cents per night for 50-watt fans, and 11 cents for the most powerful ones. This is equivalent to an increase of between 2.40 euros and 3.30 euros per month.

What about air conditioning?

For air conditioning, on the other hand, the bill may be higher. While the purchase price of the latter varies on average between 250 and 500 euros, you have to add to that the monthly consumption. According to our colleagues, for one hour of use, an air conditioner consumes 1 kWh, or 1.65 euros per night for 8 kWh. So, if the latter is used every night, your electricity bill will increase by almost 50 euros.
