Flag football, softball, lacrosse… The Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games will be “American style”, and this is reflected in the sports that the Organizing Committee has chosen to put on the program. And each country can add sports to the Olympic program that it controls.

Five new sports on the bill

Cricket will make its return to the Olympic Games, 128 years after its last appearance at the Games, but in a smaller form. “Lacrosse”, also known as the game of lacrosse, will also be present, as will softball, which will make its return after a brief appearance in Tokyo in 2021.

Squash, a fashionable sport a few years ago, will finally be part of the game after a few failures. The International Squash Federation had already applied 5 times to be included in the Olympic program. The sixth was the good one.

Flag football will probably be the most American sport of these Games. It is a variation of American football, in a shorter version and without tackles.

Breaking is already disappearing, boxing on hold

Two days of competition, and then it's gone. Breaking, promoted by the Paris 2024 Olympic Games Organizing Committee to promote urban culture and youth, will not be kept in Los Angeles.

Karate, present in Tokyo, and whose absence in Paris has been debated, will still not be back at these American Olympics. Boxing is also on borrowed time, and its presence is conditional on the establishment of an international federation "credible" by 2025. As a reminder, the IOC has organized the Olympic tournament for two editions, replacing a "corrupt" body.

Climbing, surfing and skateboarding will keep their place, however, and will also be part of the event in Los Angeles. The modern pentathlon will also be present, but the horse riding event will be replaced by an obstacle course, in the style of a "Ninja Warrior".
