There are more and more videos on TikTok where people are sticking adhesive tape to their faces, explaining that this technique is a solution to wrinkles. Is it really a good idea??

To hide the signs of aging, there are many techniques, such as creams based on uronic acid. But on TikTok, influencers are presenting a new method: sticking adhesive tape to their faces to reduce wrinkles. But is this practice really effective or is it dangerous??

Irritation, allergies…

“Face taping” would help to “prevent the appearance of wrinkles”, as explained by Pauline Beauty, this social media woman who has more than 30,000 subscribers on TikTok.

“From what I've seen on social media, the face taping ritual involves sticking a piece of tape to your forehead and leaving it on for at least three hours,”, says Stephanie Florez-Pollack, a dermatologist at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital in Texas, as quoted by the Huffington Post.

Its simple medical face tape. Paper one is better as its glue is more subtle. Use it over night ir for a few hours during the day, away from any hair including eyebrows and hairline. Make sure your skin is moisturized well and not dry. Wait after applying your skincare for at least 10 mins before you apply the face tape.

The use of these strips marketed specifically to reduce wrinkles therefore leaves specialists, experts and doctors perplexed, who are not convinced of their effectiveness. "Applying any type of adhesive to the skin can cause irritation and clogging of the pores, which leads to a build-up of oil and breakouts,", points out Craig Lehrman, director of the department of cosmetic surgery at Ohio State University.

@itzamelika Replying to @Angela Marie I use only because I tend to over expression throughout the day or while scrolling TikTok!! ?I am not an expert, just sharing information I found about face tapping before I tried it myself❤️ There are many alternatives, I just find this one more affordable and easier. #facetape #facetaping #facetapingtutorial #facetapingovernight #facetapingbeforeandafter #facetapingresults #skincaretiktok ♬ we can't be friends (wait for your love) (Sped Up) – fast demon & adamxyz & Mr Demon

"We know that adhesives contain chemicals that we generally consider to be not only highly irritating, but can “also, over time, cause allergies,” warns Stephanie Florez-Pollack.

However, aging is something natural for humans, and viral videos on social media are not going to be able to fight against it. “I strongly recommend that my patients accept some of them, because they are the marks of our expressions, explains the dermatologist. They are the marks of what makes us human", relates the dermatologist.
