Paul Watson behind bars: Greenland court extends Sea Shepherd leader's detention

This Thursday, August 15, 2024, a court in Greenland decided to keep activist Paul Watson in detention. Extradition to Japan is possible in the coming days.

The Nuuk court decided on Thursday to continue in detention until September 5 of American-Canadian environmental activist Paul Watson, whose extradition Japan is seeking in a related case in his fight for the defense of whales.

Prolonged detention

"The Greenland Court today ruled that Paul Watson will be kept in detention until September 5, 2024 to ensure his presence at the time of the extradition decision", the date of which was not made public, the police announced in a press release.
