With “Le Grand Béziers, la légende des invincibles”, David Wozniak traces the history of the ASBH rugby club

David Wozniak has an immense knowledge of the history of the ASB, which later became ASBH.

“Le Grand Béziers, la légende des invincibles”, raconte l’histoire du club de rugby biterrois.

De sa thèse de doctorant, l’auteur biterrois David Wozniak a tiré un livre "grand public", nourri par de nombreux témoignages.

After writing his thesis on the ASB – which has since become ASBH – David Wozniak from Béziers decided to make a book about it. This is how “Le Grand Béziers, la légende des invincibles” was born.

“I did my doctoral thesis, which I defended in December 2022, it was entitled “Béziers, shadow and light of a historic club, from 1911 to 2022”, explains the Biterrois. First, I trace the journey of the soldiers of the First and Second World Wars. Then, I determine why the club became the best in the world, by proving it scientifically, with figures and testimonies to support it. Finally, in a third part, I recount his decline."

Many testimonies

With the help of his research director, Christian Amalvi, as well as former players Richard Astre, who wrote the preface, and Diego Minarro, author of the postface, whom he considers to be the "spiritual fathers" of his work, David Wozniak has transformed his 500-page thesis into a novel of 211 pages, with some illustrations.

In this book, we therefore find many testimonies: “I interviewed all the former great players of the club as well as the big names of French rugby, details the Biterrois. Sela, Maso, Rives, Bastiat, who left us not long ago, and of course journalists. I also did a lot of archival work to extract the dimension of Béziers… And how it declined."

A pre-sale preview is already planned for an ASBH home game, the date has not yet been set. A signing session will also take place soon.
