The City took advantage of this summer to carry out security and renovation work.

On Monday, September 2, early in the morning, the start of the school year will ring for several tens of thousands of Gard students from public and private primary, middle and high schools. While the Rector of the Montpellier Academy Sophie Béjean will concentrate her visits in Hérault, Christophe Mauny, Director of National Education Services for Gard, plans to go to the Jean-Moulin school in Nîmes this Monday morning, starting at 8 a.m.

An opportunity to also discuss urban renovation, the installation of a prefabricated building before reconstruction. At the same time, he will visit the Bruguier nursery school in Chemin-Bas, which has been made secure.
Christophe Mauny will also go to Grézan, to the Charles-Martel and Marie-Soboul schools, before heading to Roquemaure in the afternoon.

Nearly 1.6 million euros for the work

For its part, the Nîmes municipality will present its projects and various works this Monday at 9 a.m. at the Jean-Zay school. The city carried out works this summer for a total of nearly €1.6 million. Thus, €100,000 was spent on securing the Georges Bruguier school on Chemin-Bas d'Avignon, with a new entrance. In recent years, near the school, a drug dealing point and shootings have traumatized teachers, staff, parents and children.

The Marie-Curie school, which served as the setting for the municipal return to school last year, received €130,000 the renovation of the refectory, the motor skills room, toilets and the creation of a classroom. In Prosper-Mérimée, efforts were focused on access for people with reduced mobility, as well as the complete renovation of toilets. €295,000 was raised by the Charles Martel school for the renovation of the roof and toilets.

The City reminds us that the largest expenditure item remains education with an annual budget of €4 million. This return to school will also be an opportunity to recall the opening of the Léo Rousson school group in Clos d'Orville in spring 2025.

More than 11,000 schoolchildren in 83 public schools in Nîmes

Last year, the City of Nîmes announced at its press briefing presenting the start of the school year that there were 12,220 students in the 83 public schools. For this return to school, there will be just over 11,000. In addition, more than 600 classes were counted last year and 6,500 meals served per day in the 54 school restaurants.
