Saint-Affrique: while access to emergencies is still regulated, the “Manifesto” written to Mayor Sébastien David

N’ayant pas été invité avec les maires à une récente réunion du comité de pilotage de l’hôpital commun, Le Manifeste interpelle le maire de Saint-Affrique.

The steering committee (Copil) of the joint hospital invited the mayors of the Grand-Causses Regional Natural Park area to an information meeting on Wednesday, September 4 at the Saint-Georges-de-Luzençon village hall. “65% of the mayors were present” Sébastien David, mayor and chairman of the supervisory board of the Émile Borel hospital, told us.

The Manifesto for the Defense of Hospitals and Maternity Hospitals in South Aveyron was not invited to this meeting. On Thursday, September 5, he sent an open letter to Sébastien David: "Without a response to his questions in the representative bodies and awaiting a meeting with you for several months, we are sharing with you some of the serious concerns specific to Saint-Affrique."

“A very tense summer on emergency care in South Aveyron”

The Manifesto discusses emergency room reception: “After a very tense summer on emergency care in South Aveyron, we observe that arguments of disparity in surgical units have been put forward to restrict access to emergency rooms for the 25,000 inhabitants of the Saint-Affricain care sector and to ask emergency doctors from Saint-Affrique to go and reinforce Millau. Will this organization […] cease last summer?  Will the reception at the Saint-Affrique hospital be maintained as part of the future joint hospital? "

Continued regulated access to the Saint-Affrique emergency department until November 22

Access to the emergency department of the Émile-Borel hospital center is once again regulated from this Monday, September 9 until Friday, November 22. And this from Monday to Friday, during the day from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. This is the announcement made in a press release by the hospital management. “Usually, the emergency department operates with two doctors. During these periods, one of the two doctors will be absent. The emergency department of the Émile-Borel hospital center is therefore forced to adapt its direct access. During these periods, access to the emergency department will be regulated by the SAMU Center 15. That is to say, before going directly to the emergency department, you will first have to call 15 to be directed. This procedure ensures that vital emergencies and complex situations are handled in good conditions.” Obstetric emergencies are not affected by this system. Patients can go directly to the maternity ward of the Saint-Affrique hospital center. 

Addressing the care of the elderly, the Manifesto writes that "this objective presented as a priority within the framework of the future joint hospital should be realized in investments (9 M€ in 2017) on Saint-Affrique. Since then this promise has been postponed and the medical and follow-up care services already seriously affected a year ago should suffer a new blow […]. We would like to discuss with you ways to enforce the commitments and subsidies planned for Saint-Affrique and avoid this organization of the flight of doctors ?"

 Referring to the access times to the future joint hospital, the Manifesto states: "the organization responsible for setting up the joint hospital refuses to conduct these studies and communicate them, contrary to the 2019 commitments. Do you intend to support the request of user representatives and many mayors ?"
