Avenir Foot Lozère won 2-1 in Béziers for its championship debut

Après une victoire cinglante en Coupe de France, l’AFL s’impose à Béziers. – AFL

A victorious start for Avenir Foot Lozère and the new coach Nabil Zanina.

The first day of the championship is more than positive for Avenir Foot Lozère (AFL), this Saturday, September 7, 2024. Despite a turbulent summer, marked in particular by a change of coach, the Mendois have struck a first big blow. Facing a team from AS Béziers (ASB) ranked among the favorites of this championship, Nabil Zanina's players therefore won 2 goals 1 and will be able to work with confidence and serenity.

The start of the match was sluggish with both teams looking for their bearings. The first half did not give much play. The break was whistled with the score at 0-0. The second half was a little livelier. It was the locals who opened the scoring as a reward for their domination. Trujillo, opportunistic, allowed ASB to lead 1-0 at the hour mark.

The AFL players did not have time to doubt. Nguer, fresh off the bench, equalized with a header (1-1, 64th). The substitutes had a role to play on Saturday night on the Sauclières pitch, since a few minutes later, it was Bourguet who doubled the lead for his team (1-2, 80th). With a fully involved group, like on Saturday night, the yellow and blues can hope to experience an ambitious Regional 1 championship.

Place à la Coupe de France

Before returning to the championship in two weeks, with the reception of Fabrègues, the Lozériens will now concentrate on the Coupe de France. As part of the 3rd round, they will indeed go to Fenouillet, in the suburbs of Toulouse to challenge the resident of Regional 3. Speaking of Regional 3, the AFL reserve team, which plays in this division, has started its championship well. A goal from Ibrahim Akarkoub was enough for the Mende reserves to win 1 goal 0 against Espoir Foot 88.

Team 3 discovered the D1 championship with a draw, 1 goal each, against Lévézou, thanks to a goal from Fabian Azais.

Finally, it is worth noting the qualification of the U18 group in the Gambardella Cup, the French Youth Cup. The young Mende players won 5 goals 2 in Saint-Mathieu-de-Tréviers. In summary, a very positive first weekend of competition for the AFL.
