Tous les jours, Midi Libre fait le point sur la situation en Ukraine. Ce mardi 10 septembre, découvrez les dernières actualités autour du conflit.

While Iran was indirectly at the heart of the conflict in Ukraine on Tuesday, with the United States announcing sanctions against the regime, believing it had proof that it had supplied long-range missiles to Russia, on the ground, the day was again marked by an advance by Moscow's troops in the Donetsk region.

The Russian army claimed responsibility for taking the town of Krasnogorivka (15,000 inhabitants before the war) and three villages in the Donetsk region. With fewer troops, Ukraine is finding it increasingly difficult to contain the attacks of its adversary, whose priority target remains, for the time being, the city of Pokrovsk, a logistical hub.

An intensification of Russian attacks

The Ukrainian general staff also mentions an intensification of Russian assaults. The army repelled 14 of them in the Kurakhove sector and as many in the Pokrovsk sector on Tuesday. The day before, it counted nearly a hundred in the two cities. According to Radio Svoboda, relayed by our colleagues at Le Monde, the Ukrainian defenders of Kurakhove also reported offensives by large mechanized columns, which has become rare elsewhere than in the direction of Pokrovsk.

A Ukrainian drone attack on Russia

Russia, for its part, claims to have intercepted 144 Ukrainian drones on the night of Monday to Tuesday. "72 drones [were intercepted] over the Bryansk region, 20 over the Moscow region, 14 over the Kursk region, 13 over the Tula region, eight over the Belgorod region, seven over the Kaluga region, five over the Voronezh region, four over the Lipetsk region and one over the Orel region, the Russian Defense Ministry said. Moscow said one of its attacks had killed a 46-year-old woman whose building was allegedly hit by one of these drones on the outskirts of the capital, several hundred kilometers from the front.

Major maneuvers with China

Meanwhile, President Vladimir Putin has launched major maneuvers at sea. More than 400 ships and 120 aircraft are being mobilized as part of the major exercise “Ocean-2024” held until September 16 in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, as well as in the Mediterranean, Caspian and Baltic Seas. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, this is one of the “most important” exercises of the year, in which the Chinese army is also participating. It is intended to “test the readiness” troops, “to use high-precision weapons” and to expand “cooperation with the navies of partner countries”.

Blinken expected in Kiev on Friday

This cooperation between Beijing and Moscow has been denounced by the United States. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will also travel to Kiev on Friday with his British counterpart, David Lammy. According to various media outlets, the two statesmen could announce that their countries authorize Ukraine to use the weapons they supply on Russian soil, a request reiterated this Sunday by President Volodomyr Zelensky. On Monday, the Netherlands had already given its agreement to what had until then been a step that the allies had refused to cross in this conflict.
