The town of Creissels has recently been looking for a new general practitioner. The previous one has just stopped working, “by personal choice,” explains the town's mayor, Jean-Louis Calvet.

“The doctor officially stopped working on Friday, September 13.” In his office at Creissels town hall, Mayor Jean-Louis Calvet. But no retirement. “It was a young practitioner in his thirties who told me he was leaving to do something else, to improve his skills but not to settle elsewhere.”According to the councilor, the doctor was not unhappy with his practice in the medical center of the small town of 1,600 inhabitants, neighboring Millau.

“At the beginning, two and a half years ago, he told me he was happy to be two kilometers from the hospital and very close to Millau” supports Jean-Louis Calvet. “He had a lot of people with a patient base of about 800 people. It is certain that many residents will find themselves bothered. Some are disappointed. Especially elderly people."

The support of the Department via "Accueil médecins Aveyron"

The fact remains that the municipality, as soon as the departure was announced at the beginning of the summer, used its networks to find a new general practitioner.“We have an organization in Rodez that takes care of this.” In this case, Accueil médecins Aveyron, a departmental system run by the departmental agency for attractiveness and tourism. The municipality posted the job offer on a website, which was then handled by a team of professionals. Which are in particular able “to provide personalized support to doctors planning to set up in Aveyron”.

This support makes the mayor of Creissels optimistic. “Rodez asked us for all our criteria to then work its network. And, of our own accord, we put up posters at the entrances to the town.” There remains a delay that is counted in months.“We hope for the beginning of 2025 but without certainty of course. We want a general practitioner for the practice of our medical center. So we need to find someone who works alone."

A next meeting with the MP

Nevertheless, outside of the network set up by the Department, the town finds itself very helpless to hope for a practitioner quickly. "The person from Accueil médecins Aveyron who came to see us from Rodez told us that our proximity to Millau should work in our favor. I think Creissels has more luck than an isolated town." But the mayor still remembers a medical vacancy which had lasted a few years under the previous mandate. "We will discuss the subject at a meeting with the constituency's MP Jean-François Rousset on October 4. He is aware of the problem."
