Après les animations du samedi autour de l’huître, la journée du dimanche 22 septembre a été consacrée, à Sète, à la compétition des écaillers.

While it had remained calm all day, the sky wept with joy as soon as the results of the regional qualification of the French oyster scallop championship were announced, this Sunday, September 22, on Place Victor-Hugo in Sète.

Two days around the oyster

There were, in fact, eight people from the Mediterranean coast taking part in this event grouped under the generic term of Oyster days (the days of the oyster, in the language of Molière, Editor's note) with its share of activities and tastings over two days. Besides, next year at the same place everything will be done in one day.

Theory then speed

The candidates lined up behind their workstations very close to the audience began their marathon with a theoretical test (several questions written on paper) to be answered in ten minutes. Then they dropped the pen for the knife in order to open, as quickly as possible while respecting the shell, two dozen hollow oysters, a dozen flat oysters and one special oyster.

1'15 to eat 24 oysters!

During their break, a man from Frontignan won his weight in oysters after winning the speed prize for tasting two dozen oysters. One minute fifteen (try it at home, it's not bad at all). The oystermen then returned for their platter presentation test. Then after the ratings of the learned jury, the first prize was awarded to a Catalan (Adrien Bonniface) ahead of Lackman El Rhaouladji (Ste Maxime) and Djennyfer Grain (Castres). The first two are qualified for the French championship. The sky has watered that.
