Pink October: the Pont Neuf in Alès is once again adorned with a large wave of bras

As in 2023, the Pont Neuf d'Alès, which spans the Gardon in the city center, will be adorned with a hundred bras donated by Alès women to commemorate the fight against breast cancer.

The operation was conceived in 2023 thanks to an idea by Emmanuelle Fraisse. A hairdresser, she manages the Coiffure by Ema salon, in the Super U shopping mall in Alès. A salon in which she works, whenever she can, to make natural hair wigs for women undergoing chemotherapy. A simple but highly visible operation: that of a Pont Neuf entirely decorated with underwear donated by Alésiennes.

A bridge of underwear for the cause

Collected since this summer, the bras have been hanging above the bridge since Monday, September 23. After a success in 2023, the operation is thus being repeated. "There was no question of stopping, support together Emmanuelle Fraisse and the Alésienne elected official Léa Boyer. This year we had an even richer collection than last year." The installation of the bras should be completed this Friday, September 27.

The dream of the two women would be, in the long term, to one day see the entire bridge covered with this ephemeral work. While this will probably not be the case this year, the initiative serves as a quick reminder of the importance of mobilizing against breast cancer during this national October operation.

This Saturday, the Pont Neuf is part of the route that the runners of the Run des Guerrières will take, a major charity race organized by the association of the same name. To date, more than 600 people have registered to participate in this festive and sporting 6 km challenge. At least 25 children will also take part in the balance bike race which will be held the same day, at 4 p.m., at Place des Martyrs-de-la-Résistance.
