A call for donations to the Nîmes cattle and sheep competition to save Gard breeding as well as the Alès slaughterhouse

During the cattle and sheep competition organized at the Gard Chamber of Agriculture, in Nîmes, Sunday March 17, a strong message will be launched to support Gard breeding.

The cattle and sheep competition on Sunday March 17, very close to the Mas des Agriculteurs, in Nîmes, will take on another dimension with a call for donations launched to support Gard breeding and # 39;Alès slaughterhouse.

Faced with the financial difficulties of the Alesian slaughter site and in a context of agricultural anger this winter, one of the organizers, Patrick Viala, president of Bienvenue à la ferme, l&# 39;one of the partners with the Gard Chamber of Agriculture, indicates that it could not be otherwise: "We will launch an appeal donations to local authorities and professionals, so that butchers and processors choose to consume locally. If we lose the Alès slaughterhouse, we will also lose Gard breeders, especially in a very difficult context for agriculture."

Public support expected

Patrick Viala hopes that the general public will attend the fourth edition of the suckling cattle competition, eighteen Gard animals in total, and the third year of the one which brings together around ten batches of sheep. An auction will be organized as usual to award animals to the three winners, professionals in the butchery sector. 

This competition is strongly supported by the Bovigard cattle breeders' union chaired by the Saint-Privat-des-Vieux breeder Patrick Gravil and that of sheep breeding professionals. Those who want to support Gard agriculture are invited to attend this competition and auction on Sunday March 17.

Program for the competition for Sunday March 17 at Mas des Agriculteurs, 581 rue Michel Debré, in Nîmes: 10 a.m., presentation of the jury; 11 a.m., auction  ; noon, awards ceremony.
