With seven students, the village school will close

#AVEYRON. The school map provides in particular for the elimination of two classes. The Vabres-l’Abbaye school, which currently has four classes, will lose a teaching position. The other planned closure is more emblematic because it will cause the disappearance of a school, in this case that of Brusque.

In rural areas, such a measure is not without consequences on the lives of the families concerned, on the dynamism and attractiveness of a village. The Brusque school is part of the RPI (intercommunal educational gathering) with Cénomes and Montagnol. It has nine students. The youngest ones are schooled in Cénomes and the older ones in Brusque. At the next school year, there would only be seven. "We have to be realistic", admits Bernard Bouzat, the first deputy of the commune of Brusque . "We very much regret closing the school, especially since children from Brusque are educated in Fayet or Camarès."

Cooking: the Canadian dream of Billy, the “kid from Millavois”

#MILLAU. Born in 1986 in Rodez, to parents from Millavois, Billy Galindo studied visual communication. A graduate in web design, he took "a huge shift" and opted for a… CAP cooking! "I started from scratch, at the age of 20, and I was lucky enough to come across a major chef", se rejoices the person concerned. The chef in question is Maxime Apert.

In 2012, he moved to Canada where he launched his own business in August 2022 in the heart of Plateau Mont-Royal in Montreal. Billy Galindo offers "homemade, with fresh produce". During the week, the clientele is made up of local residents and office workers, while on Saturdays, the brunch service appeals to families.

Bikes that are desired

#SETE. Delays in the manufacturing of electric bikes from the Pony company are further postponing the launch of the free floating service (bikes accessible at any time by users from dedicated areas on the road) to the spring, in Sète.

Since the summer of 2023, the postponements have continued. The principle: the user pays 1 € to unlock the two-wheeler then pays 19 cents per minute for the journey. The areas where bicycles will be freely accessible, demarcated by ground markings, have already been approved by the City, in exchange for a fee.

A resurrected cemetery

#GARD. Gabriel de Froment, baron of Castile and owner of the Argilliers castle in the 18th century, had a set erected factories, or follies, terms which at the time designated constructions or false ruins arranged in parks for a picturesque effect.

This cemetery is the last construction of a set of 25 factories spread across the grounds of Castille Castle. Very degraded, the cemetery had been inaccessible for months, hit by a danger order. The L’Uzège association works to safeguard and recognize this unique heritage in the south of France and work has just begun. They must last six months and thus allow the site to be opened to the public.

The number of the day: 16

#LOZERE. After being ranked 37th out of 35,000 French municipalities in the “Dream Town” November 2023, Mende continues to be recognized for its high quality of life, its services, its unique environment and its rich heritage. At the start of 2024, the Lozerian capital is in 16th position and stands out in major categories such as education, sport, dynamism, economy, work and leisure.
