A day of meetings and conferences on Parkinson’s disease Wednesday April 17 in Nîmes

On the occasion of World Parkinson's Day, three conferences to take stock of this neurodegenerative disease Wednesday, April 17, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. nbsp;30, at Udaf. Open to everyone

Each year, World Parkinson's Day provides an opportunity to take stock with patients and families of this constantly progressing neurodegenerative disease which affects more than 270,000 people in France. "One in 50 people will be directly affected during their lifetime",recalls Aimée Thouvenot, the delegate of France Parkinson in Gard (120 members). And the number of cases is expected to increase by 30% by 2030.

Three main motor symptoms characterize the disease: slowness of movements, body rigidity and tremors of the limbs at rest. But there are nearly 70, less visible such as urinary and cognitive disorders, insomnia, depression, fatigue… Treatments reduce the symptoms but do not cure this disease which is progressive. Between 10% and 15% of cases are of genetic origin.

This year, it is at the Udaf in Nîmes (152 rue Gustave-Eiffel, in the Grézan area) that a awareness and sharing day is organized this Wednesday, April 17, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Three conferences are planned: an update on research, a presentation by Professor Castelnovo, neurologist at Nîmes University Hospital. Every year, he emphasizes the importance of a healthy lifestyle, playing sports and maintaining brain activity. Finally, a dietician will talk about the importance of nutrition.
